Stephen Champion gained his BA in photography at the Arts Institute at Bournemouth and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute during the early 1980s. He then became a freelance portrait photographer in London, working with several leading publications.
From 1986 he developed new works in Sri Lanka receiving three British Council Awards. He completed three substantial touring exhibitions during the late 1980′s and early 1990′s and several independent shows. His Sri Lankan photographs have appeared all over the world in magazines, academic research papers, exhibitions, newspapers and in several films. Champion’s first book ‘Lanka’ was published in the UK in 1993, follwed by Sri Lanka War Stories in 2008 and Dharmadeepa in 2009. He has been visiting lecturer to several UK universities and his work is retained in both private and public collections and has been exhibited internationally.
